As an employee, nothing beats the feeling of getting commended for all of the hard work you do through generous financial compensation. We'd all be liars if we said that we'd be okay with spoken praise—we want to see the fruits of our labor sprout into a big, beautiful money tree. A lot of employees, however, get the short end of the stick when their bosses opt for a pay raise that is definitely on the lackluster side. What incentive do we have if not financial? That's why we have jobs in the first place.
A common workplace tale goes something like this: an employee is given little to no raise for their hard work, and when the employee complains, the entitled boss tells them to jump ship if they're so unhappy with it. Then, the employee complies (because they do what they're told) and finds a better position with a drastic pay increase with less responsibility. Upon receiving an offer, said employee hands in his resignation and the arrogant boss pleads with him to stay. What happened to finding a better job? Seems like certain bosses don't think before they speak. That's the rundown of this Reddit story, but you'll have to keep scrolling to find out how the company tries and probably fails to survive as a result of this issue.
