Normalize itching on the phone to agents at other hotels. I got you. It makes my day. So last night was busy af. Every hotel in town was sold out because of a big university conference and a couple of weddings. And idk why, but guests lately have been Lucking insane. Just bat hit crazy. I was talking to the manager at my local Sheetz the other night, and he said they'd noticed the same thing. Just people being way more awful than they usually are.

Anyways, yesterday I get a phone call, and they introduced themselves as a front desk agent from the hotel down the road. She asked if we had any rooms left, and I told her we didn't. That's not unusual- calling around to other hotels if we have a hot minute, just so we know where to direct guests when they ask us if we know who does have rooms available. She said she figured as much and then she just lost it. She started in on her rant, and you could tell this lady had been through it.

"I don't know what the uck is wrong with the guests today, but they're insane. I've had multiple people come in and yell at me because we're sold out. It's not my fault! Maybe you should plan your amn trip ahead of time!" "Girl I get you, no rooms means no rooms. Why is their poor planning our problem?"

"YES! And get this, so this astard comes in here and wants a room. I tell him we don't have one, and he demands to know what the is going on that we're soooooooo busy. I told him there's a university thing and some weddings, and he starts yelling 'well where the ell am I supposed to stay now, huh? You're really going to throw me out of here? What the ell am I supposed to do? I need to sleep SOMEWHERE.' And it's like... dude, I don't give a UCK where you stay, it's just not gonna be here. And he

"What an hole, that's what you get for rawdogging your travel plans like that. Sleep in your car, mother_cker!" "I KNOW!! Okay, I have a guest coming in, I gotta go, but I'm sure I'll be calling around again later on." "Okay, you got this. Good luck tonight!" And then we ended the call. My coworker is looking at me confused like "who tf are you talking to on the phone using that language" lol.

Homegirl had been THROUGH IT, and it was only like three hours into the evening shift lol. Totally made my night. She just needed to vent and probably didn't have anyone else around to vent to. I was glad I could be there for her- even if it was just a few minutes. We need to normalize having itchfests on the phone with agents from other hotels lol. We ALL get it. We all understand!

DobbysLeftTubeSock All the NA in our area call each other a few times a week to check vacancy or just to give the lowdown on the crazies floating around. Well, all except the one hole at the SchmolidayExp who throws attitude at everyone for calling him or straightup hangs up on us - so guess where we direct the jerks and crazies to go to get out of our hair.

SkwrlTail I've given the Holy rap Inn down the street a head's up every time I've had to get rid of one of the more eccentric locals, or if a suspicious car is cruising around. They've been doing the same lately.

Chris_GPT I worked in a hotel in Pigeon Forge TN and our owner owned another hotel right down the Parkway from us and used to own another, so the staff at all three hotels were pretty tight. There's dozens of hotels on the Parkway, so it was a very common occurance to be in contact with them looking for vacancies, warning about problem guests, etc.

I got to chatting with the auditor of our "sister" hotel, and we somehow got on the topic of weird phone calls. I related the story of getting two separate phone calls on two separate occasions from two totally different people asking if our indoor pool was inside. The first time, I just said yes but the second time I was ready and I said, "no ma'am, the outdoor pool is currently inside and the indoor pool is outside... we rotate them like tires so they wear evenly."

She just said, "Okay, thanks!" and hung up, but my new auditor friend died laughing at that story and from then on whenever we called the other hotels we would always ask if their indoor pool is inside first and then ask them what we were calling about. As it turns out, what these guests were actually asking was if our indoor pool was inside of the same building as the hotel or if it was in a separate building.

Natural_Ad_3019 I've done a pretty fair amount of traveling. I'd never go anywhere without making a reservation. Even if it's not where I'm hoping to find a room, I'll reserve something just to make sure I actually have a room for the night. Seems like if you're willing to travel without a reservation, you have to accept the risk that you might spend a night or two in your car.

Public_Road_6426 When I was a Night Auditor (for more than 13 years, I still have scars) we had a "Night Auditor Support Meeting" each month where a bunch of the NAs from all the area hotels would get together for a breakfast somewhere nearby and just..vent. It was great :)

GirlStiletto Where I used to live, there was an annual farm association symposium that brought 1000's of visitors for a long 5 day weekend. The organizers signed a decades long contract with the farm where it was being held. It's in a county with only 19K population, but about 25 minutes from a city with a population of 30K and a Bass Pro Shop.

For that weekend, you could not get a hotel room within 30 miles of the place if you didn't schedule MONTHS in advance. And every bar and restaurant is going to be packed. As a local, you just accepted it, but people who worked hotels or custoemr service were going to be swamped for the entire weekend. (I had a friend who worked at the local Chinese Buffet. For that weekend, the owners stayed open 24 hours, but also paid everyone a big bonus, basically time and a half regardless of hours worked.

theirblackheart This is the reason why people are quitting the hotel industry these days. People will blame US - THE EMPLOYEES - for doing our jobs and handling things that are beyond of our control. They act like we're in charge here but when not really, we didn't even make these rules to begin. I have a student group to deal with tomorrow and I hated it. I'm not

great with dealing kids, and I don't care about what happens next to them, it's all on them for getting me fired and lose my job. Now, they'll have no one to serve them breakfast in the morning. Just go to McDonald's or somewhere else. These free breakfast food isn't all hyped up as people make it out to be.
