Update: 'My boss has lied to the CEOs': New employee questions industry standards at their workplace as workers become "extremely selective" about what they tell higher-ups

The real world is nothing like school, but this person was concerned that they totally underestimated the whole industry they were working in. 

On the big wide world of the internet, there are some posts that gain a lot of attention and become legendary. Sometimes people tell stories that are so juicy and so well-written that the internet is just holding its collective breath, waiting for that update to come in. This is one of those times! U/biotinylated wrote this fascinating tale about their job to r/jobs over a decade ago, but they kept returning with updates, which readers were very happy to receive. 

This person went into a workplace where they were constantly pressured into being positive. The issue was that they had to be positive to a fault! They basically could never inform their bosses about any issues of any sort. If a problem arose, they were being too negative if they told anyone about it. That led to an influx of employees who just continually lied and exaggerated about their work to everyone, from their peers to their bosses to the CEOs of the company. It was quite an unusual situation, as you can read about below. And in the end, the whole debacle was so bizarre that it was turned into a TV show! 

Next, this employee felt entitled to bring their toddler into work without asking the boss's permission because they're a "vital" worker, but the owner of the company informed them that they were "lucky not to be fired."
