'Never got asked to babysit again': Teenager gets petty revenge on older cousin who insists they clean her house each week

This older cousin knew exactly what she was doing when she invited her younger relative over to clean each weekend. She was taking advantage of someone younger than her, with less life experience, in order to get a clean house!

Having a kid is a messy endeavor---how do they go through so much clothing, leave messes everywhere, and leave toys on every possible surface? It's nearly impossible to have a perfectly clean home when there are toddlers running around messing things up at every opportunity. Still, most parents dedicate a few hours each day to doing chores or cleaning up after their kids in order to keep the house looking presentable. They sometimes ask the others around them to help with cleaning, too. If you've ever been a babysitter, you know that some parents expect the dishes to be done, surfaces to be wiped clean, and toys to be put away. But there comes a point when the babysitter is doing more cleaning than actually supervising the kid…it almost becomes a different job! If this mom needed help with cleaning so badly, maybe she should've invested that babysitting money into a housecleaner, and took the kiddo to the park for a few hours while her house got cleaned by a pro, instead of by her teenage cousin.

    When I was a young teenager (maybe 13) I had an older cousin with a small child. She lived in a basement apartment under her parents with her boyfriend and the kid. She called me to babysit for her one weekend and I, being a young teen was stoked for the money and just to get out of the house if I'm being honest. I was homeschooled and wasn't allowed to watch tv or do much at home.

    I want over, and her and the boyfriend left. Kiddo and I played for a bit before he said he was hungry. When I went into the kitchen to feed him, every dish in the place was dirty, pizza boxes stacked a mile high, just truly gross all around. I cleaned the kitchen, as I didn't want to cook in such a mess.

    After that this became a weekly thing. Every Saturday my cousin would get me to babysit, there wouldn't be a single clean dish in the house, and I'd clean before I started cooking. This went on for months until I finally said something to my Dad. Basically the conversation went like this;

    250MCM , The dad's option was great, the only other option would have been to only wash enough dishes to cook the meals while babysitting, the dad's solution is simple & effective.

    [deleted] Similar thing happened between my sister and I. I cleaned twice, maybe three times. Decided it was a pattern and instead cooked at home before going over. Showed up with premade dinner, didn't clean her house, never got asked to babysit again.

    Malibucat48 Your cousin lived in her parents' basement and they didn't know it was filthy and a health hazard to their grandchild? I understand giving their daughter privacy, but never going downstairs to see how she lived and having their 13 year old niece report it to her dad seems strange.
