Thanksgiving is almost here, and that means that one lucky turkey will get to be pardoned by the President while millions of unfortunate turkeys will have a much more dismal fate. While I'm happy for whoever that turkey may be, it will probably give him the burden of survivor's guilt that I wouldn't wish upon anyone.
Turkeys get incredibly weird PR for the Thanksgiving holiday. They're portrayed in so many ways, from happy pilgrims at the cornucopia to merely pieces of meat. We eat ham for Easter and have the good sense not to make pigs the animal symbol of the holiday, so why don't we elect an Easter Bunny-esque figure for Thanksgiving? How about a Moose who hides canned cranberry sauce around the yard for the kids to find so they stay out of the kitchen while the adults are cooking?
