Mystery Solved: My Dog Hated the Modem & Router Bc It Was a Fire Hazard

[Fluff] TL;DR: a heartwarming story in which the dog's dislike of technology may have prevented a fire.

A while back, I posted about my dog's sudden and mysterious hatred of my internet modem and router. Unless they were secured inside a milk crate with a weight on top, she would paw at them. relentlessly. If they were on a shelf or in a drawer, she would pull on the exterior cords. The crate and redirection minimized but didn't stop the problem. (My options for placement were limited.) It happened whether the devices were switched on or not. Eventually, she went on pain meds for arthritis and gen

Until last week when she seemingly lost her mind, broke into the crate, and jiggled the router/modem enough that they stopped working completely. Internet guy comes out, takes the modem off the wall and discovers that it had a loose connection that was overheating...as evidenced by the slight scorching on the wall where it was mounted. I told him about the dog and asked if she was maybe smelling it?

"Probably. Dogs sense stuff like that before we do." This was probably a random coincidence, and it's very possible that the dog's attacks on the device produced the short, but I DID wonder if she was telling me something. Since the installation of the new modem and router, she's completely ignored it.

    B) it had a bad burning chemical smell that was driving him nuts It's unlikely that he could tell it was trying to burn down the house but it's good that he killed it

My dumb a bf put batteries in the wash/dryer. Probably would've started a fire if my dog didn't lose his sh over hearing it thru the vents upstairs.

I'm not going to type up the story about my sister living in a hotel for months because she ignored her dog pawing at the floor but no, I don't think it was a coincidence and I don't think the dog caused it, either. They have way better sensors than we do.

heartxhk 16h ago • our dog used to give warning/alarm barks every time we lit a candle; we had to decondition the "fire! danger!" response to get peaceful cozy nights lol

My sweet pup once started frantically clawing at my shoe that was in a corner of our apt, I told him to stop and redirected him, but he soon did it again, and again. Finally I looked, and there was a freaking scorpion under my shoe! It was dying bc of pest control, but holy heck. My puppy got lots of cuddles and treats for that one.

I don't know why you'd rather believe it was unrelated than connect two and two and recognize that your dog is an intelligent creature with excellent senses. But yeah, no, it wasn't probably a coincidence.
