‘We smiled inside seeing his discomfort’: Entitled new boss' pet swipes office chair from coworker, so employee makes sure he's as uncomfortable as possible

There are few unspoken rules when it comes to sharing a workspace that every coworker just knows. You don't just walk into someone's office, cubicle, or workspace and take their stuff. Even if the stuff they're using is technically "company property," if a coworker has already claimed it, then it is their's during work hours. It's not a written rule anywhere, but it's just common sense and courtesy. So when a coworker thinks they have some superiority above you for no official reason and comes waltzing in to take your stuff, you would be pretty annoyed, wouldn't you? That's when a little malicious compliance and petty revenge go hand-in-hand and are a delighted to take the wheel. In the case of this Redditor, it all started when a beloved boss retired and a whatever boss took over. This boss was not beloved, but also not totally despised, but they did play favorites, which is a big no no if you want to run a healthy company dynamic.

  • This new boss didn't like to get his hands dirty in office drama, which sounds like a pretty normal thing, in theory. But when your employees are miserable, then it just becomes a bad boss thing. This boss hired a new employee who he definitely pegged as the golden employee of the workplace. Even though he hadn't worked there nearly as long as most of his coworkers, he walked around like he owned the place just because the boss loved him. And, unfortunately, he could do no wrong, so when a coworker did try to call him out, the boss did nothing to help. 

     

    So when this entitled new employee took the chair a coworker had been using and very verbally talked about how they loved, matters were taken into the coworker's hands. She did one simple trick, and the entitled employee forever sat uncomfortably. See what went down below!

    Take my chair? I take your comfort. My boss was loved by everyone. She was given the opportunity for an early retirement and jumped on it. Her replacement (Art) was from another branch of the company, and he quickly replaced one of his direct reports with a guy (Denton) from his previous branch. He then named the Denton as his deputy in an unofficial capacity.

    Even though we were all equals, the new guy acted as if all of us worked for him now. He was an a h_le, and we all disliked him greatly, but he had immunity from everything because the boss loved him. He delegated everything, took credit for all that went well, and criticized all that didn't.

    I had an office chair that I had used for years; it was comfortable and I could move it easily in my cubicle between the bookshelves and my desk. Well, one day Denton appropriated it. When I protested, he responded by saying it belonged to the company not me, and since he had just been moved to an office from a lowly cubicle, it was necessary. Art did not want to be bothered with the dispute.

    I had replaced the chair castors a few months earlier. The new castors had a slightly longer pin inside the legs of the chair, and they raised it up about a half inch. I stayed late one night, went into his office, and replaced the front castors on his appropriated chair with two of the old ones. You couldn't tell by looking at the chair, but the seat was slightly higher in the back than the front. Denton was constantly twitching and having to slide back in his chair,

I told two other coworkers (who disliked Denton) what I had done, and every time one of us had to sit across his desk after being summoned to discuss something, we smiled inside seeing his discomfort, and then would report back to the others. I left the company about a year later, and would get the occasional call from the two who were still there about Denton's constant repositioning.

    olivia... Once a new company bought my hotel i worked at. My mangers moved to a different hotel to stay with the same company and asked me to come. I went along with them but before I left I took EVERYTHING that belonged to the previous company. Aka...I took two space heaters and an office chair. Lol. It was amazing

    Edit: I want to make it clear that my two managers ASKED me if I could grab the two space heaters for them and I agreed. I wasnt stealing since it belonged to our company anyway.

    xboxgamer2122 OP It was a old fashioned wooden chair that only rotated about 45 degrees in each direction, not a modern office chair. You could not spin it.
