Welcome back ladies and gentlemen of the internet. We all have that one friend who's cheap. The one who never brings anything to the party or potluck, the one who stands in the background of the store when you go to buy drinks, the one who charges you each and every dime you spend around her or him. The one who has this nasty, greedy attitude that you find all too unattractive. We have all had a friend, partner, or parent like that in our lives, and it's so uncomfortable and unpleasant. How do you approach this kind of inequality? How hard is it to have shared responsibilities of expenses? 

I've definitely had this problem with friends before, and it's incredibly awkward. It's never good when you feel like you're fronting the money for someone else, or doing the nice gestures, knowing they've never spontaneously paid for one of your coffees.

    Last night, I (28, F) went to dinner with a close friend and decided to leave my wallet at home. She has a habit of "forgetting" hers when we go out, leaving me to foot the bill. I thought this time, if she conveniently forgot again, it might finally push her to take responsibility. I felt like I was being taken advantage of and I was completely fed up.

    Okay, do these girls not have Venmo?? Why would she just foot the bill every time? If it were me, I would foot the bill the first time, but I think we live in a world in which everyone has some sort of online payment method, such as Venmo. So I would just ask her to send me her part on Venmo. If that isn't possible, then I would tell her to get the next bill. Next time I went with her somewhere, before ordering anything, I would just ask her if she has her wallet on her. Problem solved without petty revenge.

    As expected, when the check came, she patted her pockets, rummaged through her purse, and said, "Oh my God! I forgot my wallet! Where the h I is it?!" It's the same song and dance every time. I simply responded, "Me too." It was really awkward.

    Also this narrator seems a bit stupid. If her friend couldn't pay with Apple Pay, then how did she expect them to leave the restaurant?!

I'm autistic and have been very confused by this whole situation with this person I thought was my friend.
