Ahoy there, internet men, women, children, and whoever else. Having a teenager is one headache on top of another. The cluster of their raging hormones, underdeveloped frontal cortex, and inability to cope with their emotions in a healthy way, could cause some serious grey hairs for parents. And it's not like it's any easier for the teenager. Albeit it's a revered and romanticized time where many adults look back and think, "those were the best years of my life," when you're actually in them it doesn't always feel like that. You're still under the rule of others, whether it be your parents, teachers, or any other adult for that matter. You have the brain of half an adult, while still being financially dependent on your family. It's no wonder they get into so much trouble.

In the story below, the protagonist is a man who has a teenage stepdaughter. Already there's so much room for misgivings and misunderstandings in their relationship. Who at any age wants a stepparent, especially a teenager? As much as he's tried to have a good relationship with her, she just won't budge. He buys her a car in hope that she will give him the chance to be close, but to his disappointment, no good deed goes unpunished.

She's kind of stupid for telling him that he could take the car back. Sure, she can hate him, but if someone gifted me a car with no strings attached, I would be sure to not get on their bad side. It doesn't mean she has to like him, respect him, or even talk to him or be close, it just means to not do what she did. I would talk about him and make sure he couldn't hear, and I certainly wouldn't invite the idea for him to take his car back.

It's understandable that he's hurt, but at the same time she's only 17 and obviously she's going to be angsty towards her stepfather. Most teenagers don't even like their parents, much less a stepparent. He could have had a little more lenience about the car, instead of abruptly taking it back to the dealer.
