Something wholesome in the story is that the girlfriend of the protagonist's father is so sweet. She truly doesn't want her boyfriend's kid to have to go through this, and she's doing everything in her power to avoid further drama between them. She seems like a keeper.

The absolutely audacity of this man! He can't expect a complete stranger to babysit his children. Why doesn't he just pay for someone to babysit!
