“You’re abandoning him”: Aunt refuses to pay nephew’s college tuition after he fails to meet her excessive expectations, his mother gets involved and a sisterly feud erupts

Being a teenager is frequently associated with the "best times of your life." Innocuously carefree, fun, friends, and very little real life responsibilities. But it's not the case for everyone. Some people have such strict parents that they're not as carefree as one may think. Some people have home responsibilities, like babysitting younger siblings, or taking care of other things in the home. The looming expectations of grades, good behavior, and your imminent future without the cradle of high school gets nearer and nearer every year. It's not as much of a walk in the park for everyone.

I remember being in high school like it was yesterday. Grades were definitely important for me, but not as important as friends. I took college and honors courses, but never made it a priority to get all A's. I also worked part time and was able to save up a decent fund for myself, enough to buy my first car at 17-years-old. That car was my ultimate freedom, even if it broke down all the time and cost me a lot more years down the line. Trying to prioritize grades while working any job and maintaining any sort of normal teenage life is essentially impossible. Though the protagonist has her head in the clouds and is putting way too much on her nephew's plate, she can still refuse to pay for his tuition for any reason she decides. In the end it's her money, and she can spend it how she chooses. If she doesn't want to pay then no one can make her.

Has this woman been a teenager before? Does she remember going through high school, trying to maintain grades for a good college, or trying to manage a part-time job during all of this? Coming from someone who tried my hardest to split all my priorities equally, I can safely say her expectations are way too high.
