This is when it all truly started going down hill… But what's worse, no cereal box toys at all or the super cheap plastic stuff they started doing towards the end of the trend?

26 Totally Tubular Gen X Nostalgia Memes That Only True 80s Girls Will Understand (February 12, 2025)
When I ask my mom what she misses about the 80s and 90s, the height of her youth, she says she misses the freedom. She was a proper Latchkey generation kid. The term stems from the fact that most kids growing up in the 80s were spending a lot of time home alone; they were all given keys to their houses because no one would be home to let them in after school. This was because parents found themselves having to both work full-time jobs in a changing economy. Skyrocketing divorce rates also left kids unattended and home alone. My mom loves regaling me with tales of her youth spent on bicycles until the sun set. She misses the feeling of being unavailable and unreachable sometimes, but she does appreciate that technology keeps us both more connected than was possible ever before. If you're a Gen X woman looking for a hit of nostalgia, scroll down for some memes curated just for you!
