Even if the boyfriend is on her side, this is obviously a huge red flag. The fact that his sister is stealing from her is one thing. 20-years-old is definitely old enough not to steal, and the fact that the mom is taking the daughter's thievery for granted says everything.

If this happened to you, would you stay in the relationship? It's so hard, because on one hand the boyfriend didn't do anything, but on the other hand it could mean much more drama in the future if she chooses to stay with him. If there's this kind of trouble so early on, it may never be solid.

27-year-old girlfriend catches boyfriend’s 20-year-old sister stealing her things, confronts her with camera footage, but sister denies it anyway: “His mom completely turned the situation against me”
When we're young and in love, we can be blinded by many things. It's important not to let the blushing feelings of love, adoration, and passion mask our ability to see a person's true nature, or a bad situation from afar. Some people are better at this than others. I have friends who will ignore every single red flag every step of the way, and then wonder why they're left sad and broken hearted time and again. If you're someone who can't be trusted with knowing how to gauge a good person versus a red flag, then it's best to have friends or family members to be the judge.
In the story below, the protagonist is afforded the special case of being wise enough to spot red flags early on and let things go. She's dating her boyfriend, and everything seems to be going fine. She leaves her belongings at his place instead of taking them back and forth. After some time, she notices her things going missing. Thinking it's just her forgetfulness, she doesn't assume anything. Then, she gets hard evidence that his family isn't all what they seem.
Though it's not him doing something wrong, family is crucial, and getting involved with the wrong family can hurt you in the long run.
