This woman is ridiculous. Her friend explicitly told her that if she couldn't find a sitter for the evening then they'll just reschedule another birthday thing between the two of them. She really didn't need to show up with her child. A kid doesn't want to be there anyway and will end up causing tension and problems throughout the night. What did this woman expect? She expected that her friend would just let her daughter sit there for her birthday party.

Some people are birthday people. Meaning that when they have a birthday, they get really jazzed about it and plan a big thing. They want to make it exciting and fun, they want it to be special and meticulously planned out. For my last birthday party, I planned a night in with my friends where we made curry and just enjoyed each other's company. None of my friends have any children right now, but if they did I would 100% make my birthday party an "adults only" event. There's no reason to have children there unless you really love kids. Plus, it's only a birthday. It's not a crazy life event like a wedding or something. There's birthday's every year. It's not crucial that it should be that special of a day.
That's not what the people in the story below thought. The protagonist is having a birthday party, and tells her friends it's child-free, which is totally understandable. One friend in particular didn't exactly feel the need to respect the birthday girl's wishes, and showed up with her daughter, causing a stir at the restaurant.
