This woman seems so entirely overbearing. Her poor son has just gotten out of major surgery, and she doesn't even care to help him. She doesn't want to help him, and she shows no concern. What she wants is for him to help her! Can you say narcissist? Especially when he's already tried to put boundaries before. In this case, he can't even stand up for himself. What a good wife to put her MIL in her place.

Overbearing mother demands adult son help with mediocre task despite just getting out of major surgery, his wife puts down boundaries: “Why would you ask for a favor when he’s barely functioning?”
Welcome back to the internet, lads and ladies. Mothers have quite an interesting stereotype. We all know the evil stepmother stock character, the nagging mother stereotype, and the mother-in-law who wants her son to be a mama's boy forever, despite being an adult man. Where did all of these notions come from? The themes of jealousy, of control, possessiveness, and needing to coddle one's son, and push away his love interest.
It actually started with Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, beauty, and fertility, and her son Eros, whose Roman name is better known as Cupid. There was a mortal woman, Psyche, whose beauty and charm paralleled the beauty of Aphrodite. Through her jealousy over the mortal woman she sentenced her son Eros to prick her with one of his devious arrows and put an ugly man in front of her, thus forcing her to fall in love with him, halting all suitors from admiring her, making them fall back into the arms of Aphrodite. He's stunned by Psyche's beauty and misses, and thus makes himself fall madly in love with her, much to his mother's disdain.
So read the full story below about a strange relationship between mother and son.
