'This cat had me convinced she was a stray for 3 years!!' Fluffy feline who never "goes home" and always waits for this woman turns out to actually be the neighbor's cat who seems to have chosen a different human

We think that it is a well-known fact that at this point that it's the cats that adopt the humans, not the other way around. They get to choose who they think is worthy, and once they choose, they make their opinion known, in one way or another. Which is exactly what the cat in this story did. She already has a human back at home, but it looks like this cat may have chosen her neighbor as her new, possibly favorite, human. 

This cat hangs out with her neighbor all the time, to the point that said neighbor thought she was a stray - for three whole years. Finally, at some point, this person decided to ask around, see if maybe this cat had been abandoned, only to find out that she already has an owner… who does not seem to care all that much about her. We don't really know who the best fit for the kitty is, but we do know that the kitty knows, and maybe it is time to listen to the choice that she has made.

    I moved into my house about 4 years ago and this cat has always been around. She never leaves the yard. For 3 years she had me convinced that she was a stray. I fed her, gave her pets and brushes, even put out a heater blanket for her during the winter. (Last pic) Eventually I called her "kitty and she would respond and come out of whatever bush she was sleeping in to greet me. When I sit she climbs onto my lap or hops on my shoulders.     One day I just happen to ask my neighbor if they knew anything about this cat, I thought maybe the previous owners abandoned her. My neighbor goes on to tell me that it's her cat! She just has dogs that chase it, so she hangs out in my yard.. I felt like such a sucker and apologized to my neighbor for feeding the cat but she didn't seem to care much anyway. Lol.   • At some point, you have to listen to the cat. It is very clear that this beautiful fluffy kitty has chosen a new human, and it is just as clear that its owner - the neighbor - does not much care about where she goes or does not go. Maybe it's time to listen to her and talk to the owner.

    OkAccess304 I have a cat like this. He also came around because his people got a new dog and new kittens, so he felt neglected. That person also didn't care. They eventually did abandon him and move away. So he's mine now. I live in a city, but in a strange urban farm environment that feels like you're not in a city. Everyone is friends with this cat. He gets his own visitors.

  • This is our concern. If the owner was particularly worried about her, we think that they would have reacted differently to the conversation that you have already had with them, but… maybe we are wrong. Either way, a second discussion with this owner is in order. And we humbly ask for an update.
