We all have a different relationship with our folks, and let's just say some are better than others. They always say that blood is thicker than water, but if the feeling isn't mutual, then why even bother with the notion? Some families don't put each other first, some don't care about the other member's needs, and some will actually do more harm than good. It all depends, but the only thing that you can rely on is yourself at the end of the day. You can't choose your family, but you can choose your friends, your partner, your career, and you can choose anyone else you spend your time with. Hey, you can even choose not to be close to your family if you don't want. It's all up to you, and as you become more and more of an adult, the things you want in life, and the people you want to spend time with become a lot clearer.

In the story below, the protagonist's parents are a little on the selfish side. They visit their daughter (who lives with her husband) 2-3 times a year, which isn't much. Even though the couple has a 3 bedroom house, they don't have a proper guest room because they devote their extra rooms to the things they enjoy, like an office, workroom, or game room, much to the parent's disappointment.
