Employee resigns, then gets lured back with better offer, only to be fired 6 months later: 'Corporate ghouls be corporate ghouls'

What began as an employee's resignation ended up being a much longer saga. It should take a lot to bring an ex-employee back to a company, especially when that former worker was consumed with burnout and feelings of resentment upon his departure. 

If only this guy reached out to the people in his life before returning to work there. Chances are his friends and family heard plenty about how poorly he was being treated, how overworked he was, and how unrealistic the expectations were. If he had confided in them about being poached to work there again and if he had listened to what his hopefully decent inner circle of people had to say, then perhaps he would not have made this terrible call.

  • The author sets the scene pretty specifically here. It sounds like things got bleak at some point during 2020, when the company went fully remote, and the lines between work hours and personal time were blurred. Expectations were high, and the author felt like he was constantly not reaching them. Finally, he left in 2021, hoping to never return… until he did.

    This place was pretty well known in our area for being brutal and y. But after years it took its toll and I couldn't do it and bugged out and left in 2021 to work at O (that's a whole story in its own) but reached out to me in 2023 asking if I wanted to come back as a processor again with the plan of going up to QC. They let me name my price and did a solid job. convincing me things were different now.

    So I made the mistake of going back and woooooowwwwww it was a mess. I was constantly struggling to get the access I needed The help I needed was never present because everyone was stretched too thin. And they started hiring people but not training them properly so help was there but it wasn't helping.

  • The most unfortunate part about this poaching process was how easy it was for the company to bring this guy back. It sounds like the so-called “enticing offer” they dangled wasn't even fully set in stone. He probably should have known then that not much had changed at the company, certainly not as much as his new manager was claiming.

    Then end of Jan we all get an invite for a company meeting. They announced they would be using the W.A.R.N. act within a week or so that they federally have to if of more than X percentage of employees. So we all waited to see who would keep their jobs. "Miraculously" they found a new investor and they weren't doing the WARN act after all.

    JiveDJ . 2 hr. ago In Canada this is called Inducement and you could sue this compny for severance that takes into account all the time you worked at the company from which they poached you. Might want to at least speak to a lawyer to see if you have any recourse where you live.
