25-year-old woman collects over 150 signatures to ban kids from neighborhood swimming pool once a week, parents fight back when rule gets implemented: "Y'all, it was so peaceful"

Sometimes, when adulting gets particularly overwhelming, it can be incredibly healing to put on a nostalgic childhood movie. If you're feeling particularly in touch with your inner child, you might even whip up a PB and J. However, as we age, many kids' movie antagonists become much more relatable as we can now see things from their perspective. For example, Ken from Bee Movie had every right to be upset that his long-term girlfriend was leaving him for a bee. Similarly, anyone over the age of 12 would act like Squidward if they had to deal with someone like Spongebob all day at work!

In our story today, our protagonist might be considered the villain from the perspective of the children. She was the one that collected signatures to get them banned from the pool on Sundays. However, she did have a point, and the signatures only prove that she's not the only one that found the children's behavior at the pool disruptive.

    A few weeks ago I was reading by the pool and some a h le kid with a water gain came up to me and sprayed my book beyond repair. The mom was apologetic but didn't offer to replace my book, and I immediately went to the office and reported them.

    The family got a one month ban from using the pool for breaking its rules, and the mom was furious with me. The pool has a really extensive usage agreement that everyone has to sign, detailing behavior not allowed, mostly due to bad kids and a creepy guy that used to live here That's a whole nother story.

    badly behaved kids at the apartment pool. Most of these dependapotamases s k at disciplining their kids where I live. But maybe it's just gen z in general tbh. I would probably s k at parenting which is why I don't have kids, I'm too soft and don't like telling anyone what to do.

    Well I did. And it got 150 signatures. I posted it on the door to the mailroom. It was approved that no children are allowed on Sundays. So many women are complaining on the complexes Facebook page

    about it. But I've been this past Sunday and y'all, it was so peaceful. No screaming kids, no water guns, no crying, and I could even get in the pool. I don't think one day out of seven days a week is super unreasonable, and a ton of other people agreed.

  • I do think that banning children for an entire weekend day is extremely excessive. It would make way more sense to have some adults-only hours throughout the week.

OP is NTA, but as a single working mother of 4 children, I would have sued the property management for denying my children access to a community resource I pay for. Sunday is one of the two days my work week allows for me to bring my children somewhere. So now I pay for it but can't use it?

    Vice_Kitty NTA I'm surprised it worked though. I used to work in property management & was told we couldn't have an adults-only day for the pools or clubhouse due to discrimination or something along those lines. Maybe it's state based.

    jessieisokay Apparently it's a violation of the Fair Housing Act. I doubt this will be enforced for long. They can change it to "lap swim only" and it'll be legal.

    Even if it was "no kids from 8-10 am" or "5-7 pm" or whatever would be one thing but to lose an entire day of the weekend is harsh. If I lived there I would want a rebate for time in the pool that I was paying for but banned from.

    But then again, I'm also a responsible parents with extremely strict boundaries. It's usually the ones who are the most permissive that also get the angriest when their kids behave the worst.

    peakpenguins NTA, because ultimately it was the apartment complexes choice. You asked, you got some signatures, and they made a decision. If people don't like it, they're welcome to do the same and maybe get the rule changed back if it's that important to them.

    Federal-Ferret-970 NTA. My kids are all grown up. But even when they were little i tried to ensure they weren't little monsters around other people. I would have welcomed a day where I could go down and not be inundated by little monsters who's parents don't give a crop how not well behaved their kids were.

    It's one thing to get annoyed with kids just existing in the pool vs. getting annoyed with kids being terrors (which is the case here.) Amenities aren't just for kids either - they're for everyone.

    aitahswimming OP I don't hate kids and I don't mind being around kids. A lot of my friends have kids. But the kids here are truly awful. That was not the first time some a hole kid decided to soak me with a water gin, just first time my book got ruined.
