"My dog “tucks me in” every night. No training, just pure fluff."

Every night around 10pm, my dog (a golden retriever named Charlie) decides it's bedtime for me, not him. -
  • 03
He walks into my room, nudges me if I'm still at my desk, then trots to my bed and sits there like a little bedtime monitor until I follow.

When I finally lie down, he gently paws at the blanket until I lift it. Then he nudges it with his nose like he's trying to "tuck me in." Once I'm under, he gives me one single lick on the nose, sighs, and curls up at the foot of the bed.

This happens every night. He won't sleep until I'm tucked in like a burrito

HairSuccessful6741 OP. BTW - if I try to stay up late, he does. this dramatic sigh and goes to sulk on the couch like I broke our bedtime contract Also, if I'm away for a night, my parents say he keeps checking my room around 10pm, waiting. I don't deserve him.

No_Housing2722 1d ago Edited 1d ago This is so wholesome! My shepherd has a huffing fit if we don't go to bed at 9pm. She'll walk up to my husband and huff, then to me and huff.

xombae • 17h ago That is so sweet! My girl gets pi when I don't go to bed as well but it's actually selfish. She wants me to go to bed so she can curl up under her blanket beside me. She'll go to her crate and headbutt everything in there angrly until it's a total mess and then flop down with an exaggerated sigh and stare at me until she falls asleep. If she falls asleep on the couch beside me she'll kick me as hard as she can if I laugh too loud.

Connecting3Dots Awww! Our rescue dog, who's only been with us since January 2025, goes to her bed in our room when I go to bed. If I'm not in bed by 10:20PM, she goes in, expecting me to follow. If I don't, she comes back out and stares at me.

Odd-Bullfrog7763 • My last dog was the opposite I had to let him under the blanket at night. Then if he got up for whatever reason he would lick my face and nudge me until I woke up to let him back under the blanket

Infernalsummer My GSD/Bernese cross does this too, but according to him my bedtime is 7:30pm.

Background-Slice9941 Don't be fooled. It's your pupper who really wants to go to bed himself, and YOU'RE his lovey. AA

starboobvalley Adorable!! Mine will start with huffs/sighs in my direction when it gets late. That turns into the occasional whine & glance towards the bedroom. Eventually he will just go get on the bed alone, but he would prefer if I was also in bed.

HopefulAd756 The little good night kiss!!!! And the sigh of a happy pup who knows he's done his job. Charlie is a wonderful, wonderful boy! May you have many sleeps together and only good dreams

LamePennies 1d ago • My boxer/golden retriever mix likes to tuck me in too! Not as sweetly though. Since he was a puppy, I would drape a blanket over him while he sleeps. Now whenever I lay down, he will bring me one of his blankets and either drop it down on top of me, or nudge my hands until I take it from him and drape it over myself. Dogs are the best

Shmexy • Haha, the first half of that reminds me of my dog. If I'm up late playing video games, he'll come out and boop me. When I tell him "go to bed" he'll walk toward the hall and just look at me until I move, then WE go to bed.
