Anyone want a free cat? I'll delete this post in a day or two, as I know it's basically spam.

Plans have fallen through for a friend to adopt my cat upon my move into a new (non pet-friendly) flat. I've contacted a few

shelters etc and he's on a waiting list, but they told me it may take a while (which I don't have) and trying to give him away will be tough as he's older than Gandalf.

Cat is a male domestic white & ginger, indoor cat, about 17 years old (so any day now...) with a few thin patches of fur and permanently extended claws owing to an accident when he was small. I've only had him a

year so am unsure about his murky past, but he's basically a trainwreck. Any takers?
  • 06
samsari Hmm, this sounds awfully like a cat I had about 6 years ago in Edinburgh. Do you know anything more about the accident he had when he was younger?
  • 07
Sicamon OP Something to do with a boiling water spillage or something. Previous owner didn't know concrete details.
  • 08
samsari I think this is my old cat. Seriously. I'm really happy he's still being taken care of, and you've found a(nother) good home for him. I don't suppose you have a picture?

Sicamon OP Forgive the potato quality. This is the beast in question: http://i.imgur.com/rq21Pba.jpg | honestly intended to keep him until the angels came for him, but I've been flathunting for about 5 months with no luck finding one that'll allow housepets, so he's going elsewhere for his retirement. The woman who's taking him has already met him and is very enamoured with his 'zero ; given' nature, so he'll be fine.

samsari that totally is him! Here's a pic from approximately 2008 sometime. Again, I'm thrilled that he's going from one good home to another, I was really sad to have to give him away when I left and the person I gave him to didn't really live up to their promise of keeping in touch so I've actually really missed the little

The poor guy's been passed around his whole life. I was at least the third owner he had, and there's got to be another 2 or 3 links between me and you. I don't know exactly what his accident was, but he was utterly terrified of people when I got him (2002ish maybe).
  • 14
Sicamon OP Holy The person who gave him to me had him for a good 5 years they say, but ended up giving him away because they had a child and I think they were a bit germaphobic so didn't want animals in the house. Was it you that named him? He goes by Roger these days. He's fine now being around people and getting petted, but he hates being picked up.

He's a good bit older looking/skinnier than in that pic, but he's been to the vet (who also showed me how to clip his brutal claws) and is in fine health. I'll be travelling up to Inverness on Saturday to deliver him to his presumably final home, if you want you can come say goodbye.

samsari Ha, yes, when I got him it was only supposed to be for 6 months while his previous owner hunted for a more permanent place to live, so I named him Roger the Lodger. When said place was found, it coincidentally didn't allow pets so they were tragically unable to take him back but it was okay, see, because look, he's settle in with me so well, it'd be cruel to take him back now, etc, etc.

The person I gave him to didn't have kids, but a lot can change in 5 years. Or perhaps they passed him on to someone else after getting to know him better. Either way, it's kind of impressive the name stuck.

I wish I could come and visit him one last time, but I don't live in Scotland any longer (hence why I had to give him away 6 years ago). But it sounds like you've really cared for him and he's still having a good life so it's enough just to know that.

Thank you for taking him in, and for going to such an effort to see that he goes to someone who will look after him.

Sicamon OP Sweet name brah. I've had many compliments about my cat being called Roger but have always had to give the credit to a previous owner. Small world and all that I've taken care of him just fine, but the person he's going to is particularly fond of him so he'll most likely be spoiled for the rest of his days. I'll take a better quality photo between now and then.
