I dont know what to do next. I've never owned my own cat before but I've lived with them. It seems to be a young female. I went to the dollar store to buy it a litterbox, food and deodorizer because I dont know how quick it will take to use the litter (hopefully very quick).

I made it a bed from a cardboard box and a blanket but it seems tuckered out because while it was active outside it immediately ate and fell asleep on me where its laying while I type. I know I should get it check for a chip in a bit but I dont know what else to do. I have to be at work tomorrow morning. Please advise.

Error-7-0-7- Usually cats that are comfortable around people means they have experience being around people. He probably has an owner. There's a sweet little guy in my neighborhood who always hangs out in my backyard with my other cats, he always meows at me and asks for pets. Thought it was cool, wanted to adopt him, but turns out he has an owner.

im_kinda_ok_at_stuff OP I'd be happy for her to be reunited with her owners if she has one as long as shes safe. I'll check for a chip and ask around but all my neighbors think shes a stray.

Fit_Prize_3245 You've never owned a cat before, and you will not do from now on, either. You don't own a cat; the cat owns you. You don't adopt a cat, the cat adopts you (via the Cat Distribution System, patent pending).

7625607 Congratulations on your new cat. If you haven't, set her in the litter box. She will probably immediately jump out, but she will know where it is, and most cats figure out what it's for right away. Good luck!

skibib No no no she is not your new cat, no matter what everyone is saying. You are her foster parent until she gets back home. Right now you should be calling your local police department and/or city animal warden and asking who has reported a lost cat. Walk around and knock on neighbors' doors!

Post online in whatever community forums or facebook groups there are. Post signs nearby. Post to Pawboost or whatever lost and found pet websites there are.

Someone is anxiously awaiting this friendly cat to come home again. It might be a person without tech skills who cannot use computers and can only use a phone in their search, to call to local vets and police to ask if anyone has brought her in. Make anyone claiming to be their owner show a photo of the cat so that you know that they actually are their owner.

While it is true that occasionally people desert cats, it is more the exception. Most cats wander around because they escaped their home, or they live two doors down and like to sit in the garden but walked a few steps too far. Please take steps to get this baby back home. And not that many cats have chips, so please try other methods of returning the cat. Thank you for caring!!

This is kind of an update post from a previous one. I adopted a "stray" that had primarily lived outside. She was very happy to be inside and is a beautiful and well behaved cat but she has made it clear that shes a bit bored in my apartment and has little interest in toys.

I bought her a harness and a leash and she is a little annoyed with the harness but will put it on with the help of squeezy treats. When I take her outside though she hates the narness and wants to wander. I'm considering putting up a clothesline type thing and attaching the leash to it in a way she has a bit more space to wander while I sit with her in a Lawn chair. She showed today she can get out of her harness.

How do I make the transition to indoor cat easier for her? I love her but I can tell she wants go be outside a lot. She is also pretty young. Any advice appreciated.

Update from previous Post: I put up some fliers near my apartment and found out that she was found near a forest road by a USFS guy that lives near me. He couldn't take her in but had been feeding her and offering a bed on his front stoop. He encouraged me to take her in which I was very happy to do.

Smooth-Map-101 have you ever though of letting them go outside alone

im_kinda_ok_at_stuff OP I considered it but I've never had an outdoor cat before. I'm just worried about her being safe. I also dont want to do that until I get her a rabies shot (next week) and spayed (sometime soon).
