Welcome back ladies and gentlemen of the internet. Siblings can be our best friends, or our worst enemies. If you're friends with your sibling, life is easy. Life is actually enjoyable, you come home to your built-in friends. When family doubles as friends, there's nothing better. If your family doubles as Jekyll and Hyde though, things get tough. Your siblings may pick on you, call you names, fight with you, and make your life a living nightmare. It's not fun, and if your parents don't break you two up, there's going to be a problem. 

What happens to these types of siblings when they grow up? Do they continue to be enemies, or do they make amends? There's many directions this dynamic could go in, but in the story below, they seem to be fighting in adulthood as well. 

In the story below, the protagonist is a woman whose brother helped her move, and in exchange he told her that he wants to keep some boxes at her place. She agrees to it, but it's more than a few boxes. It's not just taking up so much space, he also refuses to take it out, despite all the time that's gone by.     I (26M) moved into my apartment about a year ago. My older brother (30M) helped me move in since I don't have a car. When he did, he asked if he could store "a few boxes" at my place temporarily since he was between apartments.

  • I wonder what reason this brother has to not remove his boxes. 12 boxes is certainly a lot, and if it's not even in a garage or closet then it could feel really cluttered in her apartment. I really understand her not wanting him to just keep them there forever, she's right to just get rid of them eventually because he was never going to take them.

    Fast forward to NOW - those "few boxes" turned into TWELVE boxes that have been taking up half my spare room/office for a FULL YEAR. I've asked him probably 15 times to come get them, and he always has an excuse. He's been settled in his new place for 10 months already.

    Last weekend I got lucky and won a small bonus in my company's monthly drawing (nothing huge, just enough for a nice meal out), and instead I used it to rent a truck. I loaded up all his boxes and drove them to his apartment.

    were nice enough to give him time with it but a year is far too long to be making excuses. Although, next time I would advise if you are going to drop his stuff off, you can always text him or talk to him before you do so and let him know you WILL be dropping his stuff off.
