Everyone has a lot of hot takes about age-gap relationships. We all have personal preferences for how old is too old or how young is too young for us when dating. It can be weird to see your family members or friends start dating someone who is, in your opinion, way too old/young for them. If your 34-year-old sister suddenly starts dating a 54-year-old, it might make you question her judgment. Or if a coworker brings a woman 30 years his junior to the office Christmas party, you might ask why women his age don't want to date him. It's common to see an age-gap relationship as a symptom of a deeper problem instead of a neutral reality of a relationship. Of course, some age gaps are more suspicious than others: I would raise my eyebrows at a 35-year-old dating a 22-year-old much more than at a 45-year-old dating a 32-year-old.

Once someone is over 30, they are far less likely to be taken advantage of by an older partner. The 32-year-old in this story is dating a 48-year-old, and the age gap has posed no problems. That is, until her parents freaked out over their relationship and called her girlfriend “disgusting.”
