In Europe, all countries require employers to give their workers four weeks of paid time off – from minimum wage bus boys to corporate employees. In the US, vacation days aren't mandated by federal law; it's something that has to be negotiated by the employer and employee. As such, if you find yourself at a job that does allow for flexible vacation days, it's a good idea to take advantage and plan for them in advance.
In our story today, our protagonist has one such job. The only caveat is that her job can only have a certain number of workers on vacation at a time, so it's important to give notice as soon as possible. Our responsible homegirl did just that, but her coworker was late to claim her days. Instead of rescheduling her event, she tried to convince our protagonist to ditch her family vacation because her Cancun trip was so much more important and valuable.
