Even if it was short-lived, our protagonist's kindness and generosity did not go unnoticed by her stepson.

"Why are you trying to play mom?": Husband prohibits 31-year-old wife from parenting his 11-year-old son from another marriage, she shows stepson kindness behind dad's back
Thanks to Disney, we are all well-acquainted with the Evil Stepmother trope. From Cinderella's jealous stepmother to Rapunzel's scheming Mother Gothel, it's no wonder we're all a bit wary of stepmoms. The trope is even older than our favorite childhood movies, appearing in folk tales across the globe. In the Russian tale Vasilisa the Beautiful, a young girl is sent out to gather wood in the freezing forests by her jealous stepmom who expects that she won't make it back. The truth is that stepmoms are just people. Some are totally evil, but many are kind, loving, and caring.
In our story today, a kind-hearted woman is finding it incredibly difficult not to take on a motherly and nurturing role with her 11-year-old stepson despite her husband's wishes. When her husband finds out that she's been making the boy lunch to take to school, he accuses her of trying to replace his mother. She's left wondering if she really did overstep, or if following her intuition was the right move.
