Hey there ladies and gentlemen of the internet. Growing up with divorced parents, half siblings, or step parents is really not an ideal childhood setting for anyone. Life is hard enough growing up with the standard parents and siblings that you're birth related to. There's no guarantee that they will treat you well either, or that they won't instill in you some sort of hardship or trauma. Even as parents try their best, there are mistakes that can easily be made in childhood. 
 

When you're a kid, everything feels malleable, but eternal at the same time. Kids are adaptable and learn quickly, in both good ways and bad ways. How parents treat their child has lasting effects on their brain phenotypes, meaning that the first interactions regarding love, affection, and safety are imprinted in our brains, and affect us as we get older and start getting into romantic relationships. Humans like consistency, they like comfortability. We have a tendency to recreate the environments we're used to seeing, so it's something to be aware of when you raise your kids.
