“You make me feel like an orphan”: 16-year-old feels bio mom favors stepdaughter to her, she talks to mom about it only to be told she has a selfish view of things

Welcome back ladies and gentlemen of the internet. Growing up isn't all sunshine and rainbows. It's not easy when you're young and your frontal cortex isn't developed yet. Everything can easily feel like the weight of the world! One day you're laughing with friends, and then suddenly someone says something to you that rubs you the wrong way, and you have no coping mechanism to deal with it. Or maybe you have difficulties at home with your parents, or worse, with your stepparents. Though divorce is so insanely common, no one talks about how traumatic it is for a child to actually grow up with an environment like that. From witnessing the sundering of your parent's love and marriage, to seeing them get with new people, it must be so jarring. 

My best friend growing up had a rough childhood with divorced parents. I had to see her take her things back and forth, to have difficulties with her stepsiblings and stepparents. Mom's house was planet Venus, and dad's house was planet Mars. I couldn't imagine pulling in different directions all the time as a kid. Read the full story below.
