Do not be fooled! I wouldn't want to discourage anyone from trying their hand at a creative endeavor, but that girl with over 200,000 followers that turns ugly secondhand clothing into beautiful pieces of wearable art has probably been doing it for years. Furthermore, she's probably taken actual sewing lessons – either from a summer course at the local library or from her grandmother. She likely didn't hone her craft from videos on the internet alone.

In our story today, a young girl is dipping her toes into the world of sewing. She's seen the videos by influencers I've just described, and she is fully convinced that she can imitate them. Honestly, more power to her! However, when her aunt rejects her offer to make her a dress to wear to an event marking an important career milestone, the girl and her mother take a hit to the ego.
