AITAH for refusing to give money to someone after I gave her free food once?

Woman contemplating what food to take out of the fridge.

This has been sitting heavy on me for a few days now. I (27F) was getting ready to go on vacation and needed to clear out my fridge, so I posted on Facebook
  • 03
that I had some leftover food to give away things like pork, eggs, butter, a few sweets. Just stuff that would spoil if left behind. A woman replied quickly. She lived

nearby, worked as a laundry lady, had several kids. We weren't friends, total strangers actually, but she seemed kind and grateful. I gave her the food and she
  • 05
looked so genuinely happy that I felt like I'd done a good thing. The next day, she messaged again this time asking for money.
  • 06
I told her I didn't have any extra to give and tried to keep it polite. But then she messaged again. And again. I haven't replied. I ended up putting her on

A fridge full of healthy vegetables and juices.

restricted, not to be r de, but because I don't want this to become a pattern. Here's the thing I do have some savings. I'm not rich, but I'm doing okay. And
  • 09
that's the part that's messing with me. Technically, I could have helped her more but I also don't want to become someone's go to

wallet just because I showed a little kindness once. I feel torn. I didn't offer help with conditions. But I also didn't sign up to be

financially responsible for someone I don't even know. And now I'm wondering AITAH for setting a boundary and not helping her further?

Bolha2 19h ago Absolutely NTA, I really despise this kind of attitude where I help somebody and then they feel entitled for

more. You did your part, if everyone did as much the world would be a better place.

AlternativeLie9486 • 19h ago NTA. I've been in the same position as you. I've learned that some people take an act of kindness at face value and other people see it as a weakness to be exploited.

She may indeed have a need but it's extremely manipulative to hound a stranger for money because they did a kind thing for you once.
  • 16
Feel free to block her and if this is through a public forum, tell the mods. She may well be doing this to multiple people.

LilMissADHDAF ⚫ 19h ago Giving away something that is of no use to you in order to avoid wasting it does not in any way obligate you to give away things you can use.

Individual-Mess5... • 19h ago NTA - but it reminds me of that saying "no good deed goes unpunished".

Purple Progress4... • 19h ago Nope. No way. The second you start this will never stop. You've done a good thing, just leave it at that. You

don't owe anyone anything just because you're doing well

ThisWeekInTheRe... • 19h ago No, NTA. There'd be no end to the asking.
