If this man can afford to renovate his kitchen, he can absolutely be chipping in on some groceries.

At least he's off, presumably mooching off of some other relative's generosity. Maybe they will lay off of our protagonist when they realize that he doesn't carry his own weight at all.

Entitled dad eats through $250 worth of groceries in a week while staying at adult daughter's house, refuses to chip in despite earning triple her salary: 'Family doesn't charge family'
When my boyfriend's mother comes to visit, she she always ends up buying us an insane amount of groceries. She genuinely thinks we are starving; I don't blame her, though. Our fridge usually is empty. We generally prefer to buy ingredients for meals each day because we live right next to a market; that, and we also order take out too much of the time. We welcome the gesture anyway, and it is a fun change to not have to walk down the street before every meal and instead have everything we need at home already. It's also just how she shows her love!
Every parent is different, though. In our story today, we meet a dad who does not have the instinct to make sure his children are fed. When he visits his daughter for 2 weeks while his kitchen is getting renovated, he treats the experience like a free stay at a 5-star resort. When she asks him to start pulling his weight, he gets offended and storms off, but you're going to have to head on down below to find out how it all ends.
