  • My manager blamed me for not reminding him about my 90 day evaluation and raise... 9 months later

So my manager pulled me aside and asked in a fake concerned voice "did you ever get your 90 day raise?" I said "no, I never got the evaluation to get the raise." He said "oh man, you gotta remind me of that stuff...we just get so busy

  • we can't keep up with it." I said "I actually did 3 times in 3 weeks starting a week after my 90 day anniversary." He looked down, said "well I'll work on that for you." And shuffled off like a dog that got yelled at. Should I push for back pay?...back story, I work for a corporate owned diesel shop for tow boats, I've got 20 years of
  • experience as an automotive and heavy duty truck diesel tech. The only reason he pulled me aside is because he found out that I found out that an 18 year old who's dad works there got a raise and is now making more than me and this kid didn't know what a 3/8" extension was when he started 2 months after me. How should I proceed?
  • Commenters agreed that he should ask for more.

Diligent Lab2717 · 6d ago . Ask for the back pay. His inability to read a calendar shouldn't hurt your wallet.
  • UnicornSheets • 6d ago . Absolutely push for back pay. It's probably even in the employee manual. You should get paid the increased wage from the time the pay raise was supposed to be instituted to the present
  • pige... • 6d ago. Edited 5d ago . I tell you, sometimes I wonder if I'm doing enough as a manager, and then I read sh like this and realize the bar is in h_l.
  • Fuzzy-Duck3905 OP · 5d ago He talked to me today and said the raise will be $1.50 and I will get 9 months of back pay. Still underpaid for an EMD mechanic, but I'm staying until I get my back pay and then giving my two week notice
  • BildoBaggens • 5d ago F the back pay, with 20 years experience what are you doing at a lower pay rate then an 18 year old with no experience? This is one of those instances where you owe it to yourself to find a new job. Unless there is some other angle here like you're a felon on a 2nd chance employment or something.
  • Just-Shoe2689 · 6d ago . Yes backpay. His fault not yours

  • Max_Sandpit • 5d ago He didn't forget. He's stringing you along to pay you less, hopefully.
  • chef71 6d ago • just make sure he knows this isn't some 3% raise, he's paying for your experience and expertise beyond the new kid.
  • Zealousideal_Rub5... • 6d ago One time they said "we aren't going to renew your contract". So the end of my contract came... and went. I reminded them and I ended up getting an additional 3 week notice. Got two extra months of work there!
  • CakeZealousideal18... 6d ago . I've been at this new firm for 4 years never had an evaluation. Everyone else got there's and boss runs out of time for mine every year because of his travel schedule. My evaluation is essentially my annual raise and hefty bonus with a sorry I'll get you next year text. Your manager s ks.
  • Deerslyr101571 · 6d ago If it is corporate owned, and he doesn't act on the back pay asap, I think you need to check in with the Benefits Manager about all of this. I guarantee he won't miss a review/raise again!
  • desert_jim. 6d ago Why are you still there? I bet he got in trouble because it was flagged that he never did it and you letting him know you reminded him made him realize he's not a good boss.
  • mdubelite. 6d ago Try to get it in an email that he needs reminders for sh like that, and that not applying your 90 day raise is his fault.
  • No_Vermicelli1285 • 4d ago ask for the back pay. it's not ur fault they messed up, and u deserve what u earned. maybe bring up the exact dates u reminded them to strengthen ur case.
  • blownout2657. 6d ago That's a high demand job. Get that $$
  • D3ATHSQUAD • 6d ago Imagine how blown his mind will be when he realizes he can set reminders and appointments and such in Outlook
  • Full-Possibility-190 • 6d ago You will not get the back pay unless your manager is authorized to do that without escalation. Honestly, unless there is something holding you to this employer, I'd start a quiet search. You could possibly double your pay.
  • Bombomp⚫6d ago That's money owed to you. If you don't push for back pay it'll keep happening. Poor management skills or strategic management. Either way, I would start looking for another job.
  • Thin_Rip8995 · 5d ago push hard they weren't "busy" they were hoping you'd forget or stay quiet email HR or higher-up management lay it out simple: date you were eligible, how many times you asked, what you were told
  • ask directly for retroactive pay you're not begging, you're collecting also start looking anywhere that lets a clueless nepotism hire out-earn a 20- year vet is a joke long-term
  • BigButtSkinner7 • 5d ago Yes ask for backpay
  • Saltiren 5d ago Walmart did this to me. Gave me my 90 day 1 year and 9 months into my tenure.
  • Klutzy-Pie6557 · 4d ago Find a new role and quit. Thats always the best approach when your not valued.
  • RubyTx 4d ago It's literally his job to keep track of that stuff.
  • Ponchovilla18 · 6d ago Well, you definitely make a case to push mow that your manager puts your raise and evaluation in ASAP. That should be his priority this week period. As for pushing for back pay, well id say that is depending on do you like.
  • working where you work. The thing about now pushing for something that isnt in writing, is while from an ethical standpoint its what's right, well this is America and most corporate companies dont give a sh about that. So if you push hard on requesting
  • back pay for all this time, its going to paint you as a bad employee. You may or mag not get it, but your manager may or may not add more duties to you as a way of payback. You see what im saying?
  • GolfGuy_824 · 6d ago Absolutely push for backpay and if they say no, start looking for a new job. It's his job to do the evaluation, not your job to remind him and you did three times.
  • If they're that busy then they need another manager to oversee him or just replace him with someone who can do the job.
  • Mr-Chrispy 6d ago Demand back pay and look for another job, they don't care about their employees and will continue to take the
  • Great-Grade1377 6d ago . My husband has always gotten back pay for late evaluations
  • nobodyspecial712.5d ago HI yes get your backpay. It's not your responsibility to do your manager's job. If he's supposed to evaluate your performance after 90 days, that's on him. Sounds like you know this though. That dude prolly shouldn't be in his position if he can't remember an evaluation when money is on the line.
