Man deems girlfriend's reaction to $1300 bracelet gift "ungrateful," breaks up with her on the spot when she suggests cheapter and more meaningful alternatives: 'You put money into it, but clearly not much thought'

Gift-giving in relationships is something of an art. It's not just about the item itself, there has to be some meaning behind it. Over the years, I've concocted the perfect formula to make sure that my fiance feels pampered and seen on his birthday. I always get him three gifts: one sentimental item, one practical item, and one handmade item. Furthermore, I keep a list on my phone of every single thing that he mentions that he'd like as a gift or expresses interest in throughout the year. For example, this year, I got him a chain necklace, an onigiri press, and I drew him a bespoke calendar that featured references to our relationship throughout. Some might think that I go a little overboard, but it's totally worth it to see his face light up with joy every year!

This boyfriend similarly wanted to make sure that he made his girlfriend's birthday totally unforgettable. Except, instead of getting her a gift based off of her interests, he decided to drop $1300 on a bracelet. To him, it symbolized his seriousness in the relationship. However, instead of being thrilled like he expected, his girlfriend gave him a lukewarm "thank you." After she admitted that she would have preferred something cheaper and sentimental, he took her honesty the wrong way. Instead of brainstorming ways to make her future birthdays more meaningful, he broke it off with her. Honestly, it's probably for the best for her!
