Co-worker quit after working 6 months and wants to celebrate

My coworker (let's call her Sarah) and I are both on three- year contracts at a news station.
  • 03
I hit my two-year mark last month, while Sarah was just hired in February.
  • 04
She was a reporter and sometimes an anchor. I'm a news producer.
  • 05
At first, she was fine and we had some nice chats. But about three months in, she started complaining constantly about coworkers she had to collaborate with,
  • 06
about her personal life, all of it. Things got worse when she got caught using ChatGPT to do her work by another department head.
  • 07
They didn't report her, but it was clear she didn't care as she freely admitted to me and other coworkers that she was using it to get her work done.
  • 08
Whenever she complained, she broadcasted it to anyone who would listen.
  • 09
Eventually, she realized she wasn't happy at the job and went straight to our boss and HR, complaining about the work and about not getting along with a coworker.
  • 10
They tried to reason with her and find a compromise, but she refused to move past it and kept pushing to get out of her contract.
  • 11
They finally gave in last month. She even showed a couple of us how much her buy out would have been.
  • 12
She of course refused to pay it and the company settled on keeping her last paycheck (again, she's airing all of this out to myself and some other coworkers).
  • 13
Since then, she's been telling the entire office about the process, bragging about how happy she is to be leaving, and joking about the whole thing,
  • 14
and never forgets to let us know that she has nothing planned after this.
  • 15
Today was her last day. Normally, HR sends out a company-wide email weeks in advance when someone is leaving, but they made an exception for her.
  • 16
Another coworker, who's friends with both of us, invited me to hang out tomorrow to "celebrate" Sarah leaving.

I get it, I'm not a fan of the company either, and I had strong feelings about wanting to leave a few months in.
  • 19
But I stuck it out because this was my first official job after graduating, and I wanted to maintain my connections.
  • 20
Sarah honestly came in strong but got caught up in office drama and couldn't focus on the work and started getting arrogant.
  • 21
The other issue is that her problems at work started becoming other people's problems.
  • 22
She had to anchor last weekend and made a major slip on air regarding the number of d ths in a breaking story, and didn't notice until I had her correct it after we came back from a break.
  • 23
I even gave her a chance to look over the script before we first went to air with the story, so I'm not sure how she slipped up.
  • 24
The incident didn't phase her either. I realized that she just didn't care.
  • 25
After the show, she continued joking about not caring if people complained about how she anchored, as we'd gotten several email complaints.
  • 26
That's when I really started becoming annoyed with her because at that point, if our news director or another supervisor were watching and saw that mistake,
  • 27
she wouldn't be the only one that would have had to answer for her mistake.
  • 28
I wish her the best, but I honestly have no interest in celebrating her quitting, especially after that.
