Pet owner refuses to sacrifice his 9-year-old dog's $11.5k surgery so he can instead financially assist his girlfriend's struggling sister: ‘I shouldn't have to suffer for another person's poor life choices’

Many humans who don't consider themselves dog whisperers will argue that family is the most important thing of all—but what do you do when someone's "family" is their prized pup? You let them be. Family is not exclusive to human DNA. Any pet lover will attest to that.

Pet surgery isn't cheap. Animal lovers dread the day their little furry friends have to go under the knife, mostly because we don't want our babies feeling scared and alone, but the dent in our wallets is no small expense either. Pet insurance only covers so much, so it's best to have money saved up so our animals can receive the care they need in a timely manner.

How do you choose between your dog and a human? Well, is the situation dire? Who needs what more? The dog owner in this story chose his pup's expensive surgery rather than deciding to help his girlfriend's sister financially, and now the two women are upset with him. His girlfriend accused him of prioritizing the wrong thing, but he begs to differ. Our pets are our family, too.
