It's totally normal and healthy to want to vent about your partner, especially to get some sort of advice on how to handle a situation. But there is a difference between rehashing a situation with friends and straight-up lying.

This is such a dated mindset to have… the old ball and chain, as they say. Someone here needs to make a cut. Either he needs to find friends that aren't from the 1930s, or she needs to drop him.

But there's a big difference between making lighthearted jokes or seeking genuine advice and inventing an entire false version of your spouse just to look edgy in front of friends. For one woman, she found that line was crossed when she stumbled across her husband's private group chat.
Instead of seeing harmless banter, she discovered that her husband had been referring to her as "the warden." He backed up this super controlling image of his wife sharing screenshots of her perfectly normal texts, like reminders to pick up groceries, and framing them as though she were demanding something absurd. The worst part was that none of it was true. She had never restricted his freedom, never demanded to see his phone, and never once acted like the version of her he had built up for laughs. When confronted, he just brushed off her concerns by calling it "guy humor."
