  • A couple of cars that are covered in snow
  • I just got fired for not risking my safety

Rn theres a snow storm and theres two whole counties at lvl 3 snow warning i have to drive through which means if i drive and get caught i get a ticket, problem is, due to my driving history i was sentenced on a driving probation where if i get a ticket for any traffic violations i have to go to jail, if i go to jail for any reason i get fired from all my assignments, so i called off to todays one with prior approval from the same supervisor but when i called to confirm they just fired me instea
  • Tried to give 4 hours notice as the policy states too, awesome!
  • computernerd88 I know this won't help the immediate situation but sign up for unemployment while you look for a new job. Depending on where you live, you could also lawyer up.
  • Draconic Toxin Original Poster's Reply I dont think i can do unemployment since i still have another job site through the company i just got fired from another job through the same company, i also live in an at will state so you can be fired for any reason
  • MostBoringStan At will doesn't mean you can't get unemployment.
  • Draconic Toxin Original Poster's Reply Even if i still work?
  • ThrowawayLDS_7gen You don't work for Waffle House. Get a lawyer.
  • Waffle house storefront during daytime
  • Draconic Toxin Original Poster's Reply I live in an at will state
  • ckthorp IANAL but doesn't sound legal...
  • Draconic Toxin Original Poster's Reply I live in an at will state
  • ckthorp Doesn't matter. There are still protections at the federal level in addition to likely state protections for unsafe conditions, states of emergency (assuming you are not an emergency responder, etc), and many other things.
  • Draconic Toxin Original Poster's Reply Alright, i called a lawyer waiting to hear back
  • darcerin If you are in Maryland, the Governor declared a state of emergency - meaning unless you absolutely had to be on the road because it was an emergency (like you were going to the emergency room), you shouldn't have been driving. That said, check to see if you had a state of emergency.
  • Draconic Toxin Original Poster's Reply Ohio, i think its similar iirc
  • JerichoWhiskey Try anyway. It's inclement weather and your hours were reduced.
  • Draconic Toxin Original Poster's Reply Alright thanks
  • KidenStormsoarer 49 of the 50 states are at will. It doesn't matter. If it is illegal for you to be on the road, then firing you for refusing to break the law is a direct violation of worker protections
  • Empty highway with solid double yellow line in between snow covered ground at daytime
  • Draconic Toxin Original Poster's Reply I called a lawyer and left a voicemail ill try and see if theres anything i can do
  • Titleduck123 I'm pretty sure op is in central Ohio, where most counties except one, is at a level 3. Im' thinking the county he has to drive to is the hold out county, for stupid reasons too (Honda plant that doesn't want to send workers home, bastards).
  • Draconic Toxin Original Poster's Reply Yeah unfortunately the one is lvl 2 while the one i live in and the one i cross is 3
