High school teacher reveals the emails sent by concerned parents: 'The seating plan seems emotionally restrictive'

Teaching is not a profession for the weak.

Playing a part in the education of the next generation should be a privilege, and yet the turnover for teachers remains one of the highest out of all common career paths. Some studies suggest that 70% of early career teachers consider leaving the job within the first five years of starting it, thanks to the varied stresses that it puts on them. Choosing to become a teacher in this day and age shows a level of dedication (or delusion) that not everybody is capable of. 

The reasons that teachers get overwhelmed by their jobs are varied. Sometimes, they can't cope with the level of admin and policy changes put upon them by whatever school they work in. A lot of the time, they find that the kids they are trying to teach seem to be impossible to get through to; they claim that they are not willing to learn or do not want to concentrate and behave. As if that wasn't enough, there is also the fact that many children have at least one parent who is willing to deliver the highest degree of outrage if the school experience is not perfectly catered to what they believe their kid deserves.

  • It may be true that some educators just aren't cut out for the job, which is why they can't last in the classroom. However, more often than not, this mixture of external factors is what gets to even the most qualified and gifted of teachers. To be able to teach means that you must have the ability to put up with a high level of irritation, and it doesn't always come from the places where you would most expect it.

    In theory, it should be a good thing when parents take a keen interest in their child's school experience, but many teachers do not feel that the reality is all that great. One coach and high school teacher took to sharing some of the emails that parents of his students had sent him, and many of their complaints and worries were a sight to behold. It's no wonder that there is such a determined minority who choose to homeschool.
