Couple pay $18k for family vacation, sister-in-law insists on upgrading to VIP airport service without including them: 'The extra cost wasn't in our budget'

• As anyone who has done their fair share of holiday planning will know, booking a vacation that involves a decent level of comfort usually doesn't come cheap. All of those seemingly insignificant costs mount up, and the more people who are going, the more money there needs to be.

  This means that any responsible adult is likely to be grateful if a friend, family member, or loved one offers to cover what they owe when they go on vacation together. It allows them to have a good time without it being ruined by worrying about their finances. 

  However, it is important to pay back those who are covering the costs by showing a little gratitude. Just because they are taking the financial responsibility doesn't mean that it was something easy for them to do. If you are happy to go on holiday with them, you should be happy to show that you're thankful for that.

• One woman and her husband took it upon themselves to pay for their family and that of her sister-in-law when booking an all-inclusive vacation. The final cost was around $18,000, and they even ended up changing to a more expensive destination after their original trip had to be cancelled.

  The sister-in-law wanted to complete the package by booking a VIP airport experience for her family. The couple mentioned that this wasn't in their budget, and she decided to book it for herself, her husband, and her kids without including them. The woman wondered if she was justified in feeling upset about this.
