  • Am I wrong for being upset with my SIL for upgrading her trip that we paid for?

My husband and I paid for a family vacation (around $18,000 total) for both our family and my sister-in-law's family, including flights and seat selection.
  • After our original trip was canceled, we rebooked a nicer destination and still covered everything. Recently, she mentioned upgrading to a VIP airport service that would cost extra for us as well.

  • I said we'd think about it since we had already spent quite a bit. A few days later, she went ahead and booked it for just her family.
  • When we saw her, we mentioned the extra cost wasn't really in our budget, and she said since they'll get through the airport faster, they'll arrange their own transportation and meet us at the resort.
  • I understand it's their choice, but I can't help feeling a bit off about it since we paid for the trip and had planned to travel together.

  • nemc222 I think this would be the last tab I picked up for SIL and her family. What does your husband think about this behavior?
  • SignificanceFun8377 Original Poster's Reply He was pretty upset by it and wanted to cancel the trip all together
  • justhappytobehere-eh Is he upset enough to say something to her? Bc if he's not then I wouldn't worry about bc it would just make you look like the bad guy. Either way, I know I'd never pay for anything ever again.
  • SignificanceFun8377 Original Poster's Reply He did say something to her today about it
  • _Winterlong_ I would touch base with the resort/hotel. I wouldn't want her swapping rooms or upgrading on your dime without your knowledge!
  • SignificanceFun8377 Original Poster's Reply No it's an all inclusive and everything is paid for already so if she wanted to upgrade more she would have to pay when we get there
  • Cacoonpiece_00 NTA. I would book an excursion for everyone else, and exclude them. That's the petty in me though.
  • Clear_Effective_748 And what was her reaction?
  • SignificanceFun8377 Original Poster's Reply She pretty much said just that if we weren't gonna do it she would just get private transfer and meet us at the resort and that was it
  • Illustrious-Unit-636 Too late to cancel the vacation?
  • SignificanceFun8377 Original Poster's Reply Lol I would love to be petty but I am actually looking forward to sunshine and a good time
  • No_Appointment_7232 OP is this then kind of all inclusive w places parents can check this kids into while the adults do their own thing? My gut says she's going to try constantly dropping her kids w you, bc "...this trips is about cousins time, right?"
  • SignificanceFun8377 Original Poster's Reply It is an all inclusive with kids club and stuff but her kids are older so that wouldn't even be an issue we're the ones with a young one
  • Born-Onion-8561 What was the actual % this increased the overall cost?
  • SignificanceFun8377 Original Poster's Reply Okay so original trip was about 7000 for all 7 of us including seats and then we paid about 18000 for the new trip with seats and trip included
