FrozenBr33ze Original Poster's Reply My girl Avar (Exhibition Budgerigar) is almost 2 years old and has been an amazing and dedicated mother. Her chicks are now 15, 10 and 8 days old respectively, and developing strong at a good pace. The last one received his bands yesterday and will become eligible for competitive showing when older. The eldest and the youngest will resemble their mother a lot, while the middle child will resemble their father. Waiting to see how they shape up is the exciting

FestiveArtCollective Avar looks like such a proud mom!

FrozenBr33ze Original Poster's Reply She's ridiculously good at it, too. Some hens make better mothers while others don't. She's definitely way up there.

Ok-disaster2022 I always assumed the eggs were all laid like with the same day, or at least they hatched on about the same day. I didn't know one egg could be hatched 5 days before the others. That must produce stiff competition for attention.

FrozenBr33ze Original Poster's Reply One egg is laid every other day. Incubation period for each egg is 18±2 days. They hatch in the same order, so the difference between first and last hatchling can be over a week.

nickyd1393 idk if you can answer, but why do these guys not go through the 'fluff' stage like baby chicks/ducks/geese? they seem to already be getting their adult colored feathers very cute!

IHaveAFunnyName I love seeing this update! Beautiful photos. You said that the you gest may be shown competitively, what do you look for and how can you tell which parent they will look like and which one will be good for competitions? Thanks!

FrozenBr33ze Original Poster's Reply This category of birds hatch completely na ed and blind with total dependency of others for life. The birds you're thinking of mostly hatch self sufficient and able to feed themselves right away.
