  • Position was vacated, I applied internally. Was told the position was being dissolved for now and was then given the role’s responsibilities.

Without getting into too much detail, I work remotely in healthcare. A position with more responsibility and higher pay was recently vacated and the job posting was online for a couple of days before I saw it. I have only been working here for 6 months at this point, but I have been getting consistent praise for being efficient and findings way to be more productive. I have even been praised by the healthcare providers on the rare days I was in clinic.

  • I then applied internally through my manager and was told I would be a great fit for the position and she reiterated that my length of working at the company shouldn't matter. At our next meeting, the director of my sector alluded to supporting my application (without revealing my identity).
  • About a week later, my manager talks to me and says the position is being dissolved for 1-2 months and is undergoing restructuring, to provide clearer responsibilities and tasks. I say no problem, I understand and I appreciate that they had even considered my application. The following day, I am given the dissolved position's tasks with no change in pay or title. • Trraumatized I would try to talk to either manager and ask something along the lines of "is the fact that I am given this roles tasks and responsibilities to be taken as confirmation that, given good performance, I will receive the position after it is restructured in 2 months and will then receive the appropriate title and compensation?" and then go from there.
  • Hello_Mist I would talk to your managers but be very diplomatic. I would suggest taking on the new responsibilities and impressing them. Later, if the promotion doesn't pan out, look elsewhere. It wouldn't hurt to start getting research done for your next move.
  • Appropriate-Sir-3264 sounds like they're testing how u handle the extra responsibilities without paying more, it's normal to feel unsure, especially being new i'd probably keep doing it for now, document ur work, and then bring it up later when u have results to show like "i've taken on these extra tasks, here's what i accomplished, can we revisit pay/title?" doesn't hurt to ask politely, but timing matters
