Manager fires employee after a week on the job due to employee noticing they weren't paid for their first day at work and notifying payroll: ‘This isn't working out’

When you start a new job, the last thing you want to do is have to tell someone you barely know that they did their job wrong…

It happens a lot when it comes to workplace bureaucracy and things like payroll. It's almost a rite of passage in any new job that someone who manages workplace bureaucracy will mess something up. It's only up to the new hire to notice if something wasn't done right, and they are the only ones who can flag the issue and ensure someone fixes it.

The employee below, for example, had been working their new job for only a week when they noticed in their pay track app that they weren't paid for their first day on the job. Thinking it was an easy issue to fix, the employee found the person in charge of payroll, Jan, and informed her of the issue.
Well, apparently that wasn't the right call to make, because it was only a few minutes later that the new employee got a text from their manager telling them they shouldn't have contacted Jan and should have raised the issue directly with her.
“Got fired after a week on the job and I know why.”
Started a job, everything was going well. On time every day no major f ups, which is to be expected when new.
Well we download apps so we can track our pay and when we need to come in. I noticed that I wasn't paid for my first day.

So I scroll to contacts and see "Jan Payroll" so I send her a message describing this issue.
A few minutes later I get a text from the manager saying "just so you know all payment issues come directly to me, not jan"
Okay my bad. I see that she fixed it, fantastic.
No big deal; the manager got the issue fixed, and now the new employee knows who to turn to if they find another issue with payroll, right?
Wrong. It seems like this single action was enough to give the manager trouble for not doing her job, probably, and she took it out on the one person she thought was to blame: the new hire.
That is how this new hire got fired after a week on the job, but it might not be the end of this story….
The next day I come in and she says it just "isn't working out" I asked what I did wrong and she gives the same response.
Normally she is really sweet and nice but that day she was just straight cold to me.
I'm sorry Jan chewed you out for not doing your job, but did you have to take mine?

Your boss probably got in big trouble for misreporting payroll, if you're in the US it is in the law that workers get paid exactly on time and the correct amount. If this mistake got caught much later payroll would be in much deeper s**t.
Your boss got spooked and fired you, you may have a case of retaliation if you documented the event, you have texts and email trails right? / likeawp
You thought for yourself, they see that as dangerous to their perceived control over you. So they let you go. It's pretty scr**ed up. / MaternalFornicator2

Should this employee get the justice they deserve, or would that be fruitless?
Perhaps it was better that they were let go after only a week, because if the manager is this awful so early on, it might have been better to get out of this workplace as soon as possible.
