Treats are basically the reason why dogs learned basic commands in the first place. If your dog sits and gives you its paw, chances are you trained them using treats. So how are they not supposed to expect more snacks after that? They will believe they deserve more treats just for existing. And they are right.

The second your dog realizes you have a treat, their excitement is immediate and impossible to hide. Their ears perk up, their eyes grow wider, and their tails start wagging expectantly. Suddenly, they pay attention to you more than ever before. They are fully focused on earning that reward. And right after you give them the treat, they believe that with enough determination and persistence, they can earn at least one more. And, of course, they are right.

How could we not give them one more when they look at us with that sweet face? Dogs know how to manipulate our emotions. They know that one head tilt, one hopeful stare, or one gentle paw resting on your leg is enough to make you question whether they actually do deserve a second treat. Or a third one. And they usually win.

After all, why not give them another treat? Look how happy they are. Their entire face lights up when they think another snack might be coming. At that point, there is no other option. Watching them excited makes you happy too.
