  • A 13-year-old boy eating a sandwich at his cousin's graduation party before the party begins, which makes his aunt angry.
  • Am I the bad guy because I took a turkey sandwich after being told it was too early?

My sister told me the party doesn't start for 90 minutes and I can't give my teen a sandwich. I took one anyway. Am I the a ??
  • Here's the long story.... I went to my nephew's high school graduation along with husband and our 3 sons about a week ago. We left our house at 11am and my two teen
  • boys weren't up early enough to eat breakfast before we left. The graduation ceremony was at 1pm and we got to my sister's house for the open house party around
  • A daytime graduation ceremony, where graduates can have a graduation party a couple of hours after the official celebrations commence.
  • 2:30pm after the ceremony finished. At this point my kids were hungry. Most of us were willing to eat the jerky, protein bars & frozen yogurt pops that I had
  • brought. One kid (13) wanted "real food". They were serving turkey sandwiches and pulled pork (Hello, Midwest) I went to make up a sandwich and was

  • verbally bombarded by my sister, her husband and her 14 year old son with "clearly you didn't read the invite, it doesn't start until 4pm!" "you should've eaten before
  • you left!" I argued back that we could go eat somewhere else, what's open? Well, this is RURAL America, as in NOTHING is open on Sunday in a town with 16
  • graduates. I was so upset I almost left that minute. I drove 3 hours round trip and attended the graduation ceremony to support my nephew and a simple
  • turkey sandwich in return 90 minutes early was too much?? Tell me. Am I the a for taking the sandwich and it waiting until the party start time? I know this
  • was an emotional and stressful day, but still.
  • Internal-Joke-2585 YTA. YOUR kids didn't wake up early enough. You brought snacks that they didn't eat.
  • BlackCatBonanza YTA. Your child is old enough to get up on time and eat before leaving. He had other snack food options. Your sister likely prepared enough food for the party only. Teach your child to care for himself or deal with the consequences, stop spoiling him, and stop disrespecting your sister. Your sister overreacted a bit, but hosting is stressful And her expectation was clear.
  • SnooComics8268 NTA. A party needs food, all the time. Even if you have breakfast at 10:00 you would get hungry a few hours later. A sandwich is totally a snack to me. This days people are so selfish that they let guests, I repeat GUESTS go hungry because they have a whole time line in their head in which nobody gets to eat. What kinda party is that.
  • Putting TheMSinMRSA The party didn't start until 4 though.
  • SnooComics8268 But why ask people to come earier then, they want them there for the graduation, they left the house early. They will need a proper lunch and that's usually somewhere between noon and 2. They could have s party at 4 and still have lunch all together before the party started.
  • maybeRaeMaybe Not ESH Kinda wild to expect out of town guests to pack a cooler and tailgate a graduation. If it was my sister's house and the turkey and pork sandwiches were "off limits", I would have raided the pantry made some Mac & cheese or a pb&j. I mean for J real. I guess go get hot dogs at the gas station and sit on the front porch to chow down?
  • Technical YTA for not planning better, but it is also really weird to have a huge gap in time, yet allowing you to sit and be hungry in her house? It boggles me mind. Surely there were chips or make a pb&j? As a longtime midwest host, we always had snacks and drinks before the meals. Like meatballs and wieners, chips and dip omg the 7layer dip, pasta salads and Rice Krispie treats, and the Chex mix. One could eat before the meal was ready? I just couldn't let people go hungry.
  • MaxSpringPuma YTA. She shouldve just let you have the sandwich. But it was 2:30pm. Your kids woke up late and hadn't eaten since the previous day. You were relying on that food without prior arrangement, otherwise you would've organised something else or made sure they were up early. It all seems silly to me anyway. Even if the party food was off limits, my siblings are allowed to help themselves to the everyday food in my kitchen
