I've never been a cat person, in fact I'm pretty allergic. This cat ignored me for the better part of a year- living directly across the street- I liked to watch her hunt insects but that was about it.
  • 04
Then she started hanging out in the front yard, and I discovered she was a bongo cat. One night, her human stayed out for the night, this one jumped through

my bedroom window and slept in the crook of my knee and the rest was history: She wants to be with me 24/7. I work from home which doesn't help.

Her human confronted me and sternly asked me to shoo her away from now on, which I swear I tried, but she's scratched and bitten me trying to remove her from my house, also she smarter and faster than me.

Add to all of this, I'm in love with her and- as I'm seeing is a common thread she happened to "adopt" me during the roughest year of my life (so far). I'm convinced that cats are angels, even if this angel is going to get me beaten up.

    Worth it :)

GatsbyGalaktoboureko A while back the BBC did a documentary on the secret lives of cats, where they studied cats in a particular village as well as cats in an urban area, and cats on a farm.
  • 12
One of the stories documented a cat who lived in a house with other cats and was bued by them. The bu ed cat chose one of the neighbors, an elderly man with no pets, as her human. Initially she would

only hang out with him during the day, and eventually it led to being there all the time. The documentary discussed how the cat was choosing a different place to live because the original environment was just too stressful for her. If I

recall correctly, the original family did end up letting the elderly man keep the cat (not that they had much of a choice, as the cat kept leaving and going to his house at every chance she got). This

story reminds me of that documentary. Fingers crossed for a happy ending all around.

cagethehornytoad OP Aw, what a sweet story. I'm hoping for a happy ending here too. I'm certainly not trying to hurt anyone or be a bad neighbor, it's a tricky situation

Without Dennis Nedry We now share our only indoor/outdoor cat with our across-the-street neighbors for exactly this reason.
  • 18
When we "found" him, he thought he was just a really friendly stray but in rough shape. Fleas, left out in the cold and rain constantly, hungry all the time. We took him to the vet and no chip so we adopted him officially. Turns out he was

our neighbor's cat and they just treated him like sh. By the time we found out, he was legally ours and they mistreated and neglected him so we never felt bad about it.

Fast forward a few years and we've moved to a different state. By now, we've adopted a few more senior kitizens and he doesn't get along with them, prefers to be an only cat. He goes across the street (super rural, zero traffic) to our across neighbors all day and only comes home for dinner and to be put inside for the night.
  • 21
Our neighbors are a lovely older couple who adore him. It's obvious he prefers them and wants to be there full time so we have a sit- down talk with them about it. We ask if they'd like to adopt him and they're super excited about it and come back with a quick "yes."
  • 22
While we love him dearly, we want what makes him happy and that's obviously being with our neighbors so we make it official. Everyone's happy!
  • 23
We still see him almost every day as he comes to visit. Sometimes he wants to spend the night and we let him. He pretty much has two homes with food dishes, furniture, beds that are just for him, his toys, etc. He living his best life with two sets of parents and a whole neighborhood who loves him dearly.

feralcatshit This actually happened to me. My first cat was born to a family on the next street who had (literally) 25-30 cats and kittens running around. She kept showing up at my house. I loved her but knew where she came from, so I took her back and talked to the lady one day. I said, “this

sweet cat keeps coming over, we don't mind taking her if you guys are looking to find homes for some, but I didn't want to just take her" and the lady said, "you can't have that brown one, we want her, but you can pick any of the others

to have". So I sadly put her down, told her to stay... and she followed me back to my house and hasn't left since. Neighbor never said a word... may not have even noticed they luckily found homes for all of the cats, but I

think she realized that cat chose me and it would be a forever battle unless she was willing to put her inside (and she wasn't, apparently). Happiest day for me she's my soul cat.

SashaAquirah congratulations on being successfully adopted against your will

cagethehornytoad OP Thank you, it's a great honor. Seeing her little face appear in my window is the highlight of my day
