Why do cooking disasters make the best kitchen stories?

There's nothing that I love more than feeling related to any type of cooking fail memes. Since I'm not a professional cook and I barely know how to prepare decent pasta, these memes speak to me very clearly. Although I'll say that, whenever I cook at home, I put my best effort into the recipes to see if I somehow mastered the art of cooking… and most of the time life proves me the contrary.

Over the years, and after the realization that I do not have the gift of cooking, I learned how to cope with the disappointment and to move on with my life. At first, I used to get very angry at myself for not being able to successfully put together a fancy dinner for my boyfriend. 'How hard could it be?' I thought to myself. Needless to say, of course, recipes are indeed more complicated than I anticipated, and I failed massively at the attempt of cooking a lamb chop with a crazy cranberry sauce. 

Anyways, the best comfort has been, since then, scrolling through these cooking fail memes that represent exactly how I feel: the huge mess I made of my kitchen, always forgetting one ingredient, and the strong willpower to keep trying.   • One thing that cooking has taught me is that confidence and skill are not always the same thing. There have been plenty of occasions when I walked into the kitchen feeling like a celebrity chef, only to discover thirty minutes later that I had misread the recipe or forgotten a key ingredient. The confidence was there. The results, unfortunately, were not.

  • Of course, the thing that keeps me coming back to cooking is the fact that with every failed recipe, I learn a lot. Sure, there're some moments when dinner will turn into Chinese takeout, or situations when the oven may explode. But no matter the disaster created, each of these scenarios will eventually become a funny story that's more entertaining than the meals that could turn out right.
