  • I want to make sure I am doing the right thing, so I came here for a reality check from a neutral party. I sold an electric stove to someone this morning.
  • AITAH for not refunding money for a stove when I saw the buyer drop it 3 times before she loaded it in her car and then slam her hatchback against it several times while trying to close it?

  • I brought her a handtruck to help her transport it to her car. I even went to the store to get her change since she brought large bills. When she came into
  • my home I told her she could test it before buying it. She turned on two of the burners and said it was fine. I know it was in good working order, because I
  • used it earlier in the week before I cleaned it to prep it for sale. When she and her son were bringing out to her car, I saw them loose their balance and the stove fell off the hand truck 3 times.
  • At one point it scraped the concrete and made a loud noise. I saw a small piece of plastic fall out it and pointed it out to them. The buyer even slammed
  • her hatchback door against it 3 times as she tried to close it against the oven. I watched all of this and followed them closely because I was retrieving the
  • hand truck once they were done. I thought everything was fine. Then I get a few nasty messages from her telling me that the oven isn't working and that
  • I cheated her. I responded with the details I shared above stating that I would have never sold her a broken stove and did everything I could to
  • Woman on a couch with a phone and mug, looking amused but unimpressed, like someone’s complaint is not changing her mind
  • make it a good sale, including offering her to test it. I wish she has turned on the oven before she took it so that
  • there was no room for doubt. Now this just feels awful. AITAH for keeping the money?
  • clockenhouse I mean I think you know the answer? NTA. Ignore further messages.
  • isthisthingon78 The buyer should have checked it out completely. If she said it was fine and gave you money, and you saw her mishandling the stove, she gets no refund. NTA
  • Feisty-Body- NTA, my dad has a form that he has uses that just states "[item] sold to [name] on [date], sold as-is and all sales final." And he and the buyer sign it so there is no room for this kind of harassment after. Might be worth doing if you plan to sell more in the future.
  • Yass_Banrion NTA. Often things break when they've been bounced off concrete! Block her and ignore her.
