'The cat moved in like it was paying rent': Wholesome "not my cat" lets himself into a couple's tent in the middle of the night and is still there, unbothered, come morning.

denimbuddie OP The cat moved in like it was paying rent.

Purple-Mermommy I believe you were enjoying his company as if you were collecting rent. Love it when it's mutual!
  • 09
denimbuddie OP You got me there lol

Lectrice79 Him pay rent? No...that's on you. Welcome to your new overlord! sparklark79 Ya. They kinda OWN us, don't they?

Winter_Candle588 The cat decided you needed the company and the protection.

denimbuddie OP Yhea the cat was patrolling around. Making sure our campsite was safe and enjoyable.

whatthewhat3214 My sister had a friendly stray show up in their campsite once. She took him home and he was a really cool cat (he passed years ago from old age, but had a good long life with her).

Cut Lanky My dad's childhood cat was a campground stray. Seems like they can sniff out the cat people, lol

Lil-Miss-Anthropy What a dream. I would want to sleep with the kitty forever.
  • 16
undercover_cheetah I absolutely love cats like this (well, just cats in general.) They essentially just roam around being all bada and aloof.
  • 17
They don't care what you think, but they're still willing to hang out and comfort you if you seem like you need it. They're perfect.

Bavaustrian I was on a big scout camp a few years back. ~1500 people. There was a young cat belonging to one of the farmers down the road

who just wandered from tent to tent cuddling basically every kid who wanted to. Slept in a different tent every night. Must have been absolute heaven for the kitty and certainly was for the kids.

Fox_Hawk After my marriage ended, when I was in my new place I went for a walk to clear my head. It was a sunny day but I couldn't really feel it, and I sat somewhere leaning against a wall.

A cat like this appeared and claimed my lap for 30 minutes. Super affectionate and purry. Then when I went to move gave me a head boop and wandered off.

Never saw kitty again but it was definitely huge uplift at a terrible time.

Artistic-Salary1738 Sounds much more enjoyable than a raccoon breaking into our tent to steal food (while we were gone). Yes I learned my lesson, I was concerned the car would heat up too much. to keep the food cold.

PirateJen78 That's awesome! (C This happened to my mom and her SO last year. They basically had a cat hang with them all weekend.

21yrs-militarybrat Many years ago, I was at a Girl Guide camp in Wales. Some of us decided to sleep outside instead of in our tents. When I woke up in the morning, there was a kitten curled up next to me inside my sleeping bag.

throwaway04182023 Similar story. I was on an overnight trip from my camp and someone forgot to pack a tent so obviously they had a group of pre-teen girls sleep outside. I took a bench of a picnic table and had to sleep on my back, in the sleeping bag, with one foot on each side for balance. I woke up to a raccoon licking my toe through the hole in my bag.

AlfieHitchcock Did you just leave him in the woods? denimbuddie OP No there is a caretaker for these woods is living a few hundred meters away from this spot. The cat is his :)

jennzillahhhh Thank you! I was worried the poor cat got dumped in the woods. I'm happy he has a home and gave you good company for a bit. :)
