mothmn_9 I made my dog a nice lickmat for tonight.. peanut butter and applesauce. It should keep him calm for a while... he doesn't really bark at fireworks, he just gets scared :(

TheRocking Just chiming in since my behaviorist suggested this med just recently: Sileo (corrected). I'm in Canada so it was just recently approved but it's a medication that has helped my dog tremendously during thunderstorms. It is on the pricy side though... Whenever I don't have meds, my boy just goes for a car ride. That's what soothes him

kingtalea Honestly last firework night (UK) I had him swaddled in an Adaptil-sprayed blanky with his ears loosely covered. Gentle piano playing loudly and he was sat on my lap with the side of his face pressed against my mouth while I sang to him. Probably not what a trainer would recommend but it was what worked.

queercactus505 Watching a loud movie, clicking and treating the big booms. Have tried Sileo in the past, which didn't seem to help much, but did give her double the gabapentin she usually gets at night (no trazadone, as it actually makes her more anxious), and she was pretty okay.

Obtuse-Posterior Fortunately my guy only gets scared if it's big fireworks booming and my town doesn't do a display. The smaller ones the neighbors light hes usually fine with. If he does get a little anxious we just go in the basement and I put music on and he calms down.

zeteticprion I prepare a frozen lick mat or two, ear covers, and do half doses of their trazodone to keep us chill and settled the whole entire day into the night. Since I feed twice a day, they just get half a pill with each meal! Have a safe holiday weekend, wishing you the best.

Temperature-Savings A lot of my patients get trazodone +/- gabapentin to handle the stress of fireworks. ETA: nothing works for 100% of patients so talk to your vet about best option(s) for your pet

Active-Potato-4547 No shame in using meds to support dogs who need it. We also have a pair of Rex specs ear muffs and we try to play music in the house to make the booms not so sudden. Dogs needs also adapt as they age so while our older dog wasn't bothered by it as much as a younger dog. We also work on desensitization to the sound the rest of the year ( though admittedly not always the best at keeping it in rotation)

CatpeeJasmine We've sought out a veterinary behaviorist specifically for Lucy's fireworks noise aversion. (She does not respond to out-of-the- moment counter conditioning for this -- she does not react to recorded fireworks at any volume but does react to live fireworks even at moderate volumes -- nor does she respond well to any of the situational medications or med-combos that my regular vet is comfortable prescribing without a VB consult. Other non- medication options -- headbands, ear coveri

had a negligible to negative effect.) Our best plan is to try her current situational med cocktail (tried yesterday to surprisingly few fireworks, so we know that under calm circumstances, negative side effects are manageable) with as much indoor ambient noise as we can manage (movies on our TV and sound system), a covered crate, and extra hide-y blanket, pheromone spray (I still don't think it works, but it's not having any negative effects, so), and interactive treats (they do not help her to
