Violingirl58 50% protein (meat, fish, poultry, liver) 25% starch (potato, sweet potatoe, rice, oats etc.) 25% non starch veg/fruit Add a good quality salmon oil/the occasional egg. -If dog need to lose weight, lower the starch. Look up the weight of your dog to see how many calories it needs. One you make this you can blend or add eggs and form into meatloaf or patties for easier serving Talk to your vet

[deleted] This is what I've made my dogs for 15 years. Approx. 3 pounds of usually ground turkey or if we can't get it then 93-97% lean ground beef. 85 to 100 gr of either beef liver or chicken liver chopped very fine, basically like a paté.

BakerSubject7697 Others have already provided great recipes to start. I just came to say I've tried all possible "fresh food" "human grade food"- farmer's dog, nom nom..name it, I've tried it. All are a bunch of ci p and none made my dog as lively, healthy and happy as a home cooked meal.

Same-Whereas9819 Great idea. Mix it up sardines, giblets, liver, cheap cuts of beef - cheap and nutritious and some veggies and whole rolled oats. And whatever you do, don't listen to the lemmings and m is telling you to consult a vet. These f. are brainwashed by the ks commercial dog food industry. Dogs evolved for 40,000 years at our feet - they eat what we eat with very few exceptions.

journeysmine A lot of the Gl issues people see with fresh food usually come from switching too fast (especially from kibble), or feeding something that's too fatty, which can cause things like loose st 1 or even pancreatitis in some dogs. It's not usually the food itself, it's how it's introduced or whether it's properly balanced.

WorriedGuava 7831 i've been using something similar to balance.it, it's called grublify and i found it to be cheaper than balance.it in terms of supplement and recipe cost! plus all the ingredients grublify has i can find at any grocery store (chicken, rice, carrots, etc.), balance.it's ingredients can be kinda hard to find for me

eeg-18 I started making my dogs' food a year or two ago and it's like they aged backwards. I use a crockpot and follow the chicken and white rice recipe from Just Food For Dogs (chicken thighs, chicken liver, spinach, carrot, green apple, long grain rice). I also add in a nutrient powder by JFFD.

eclecticaesthetic1 I have been using YouTube Earthling 1984's dog food recipes for over a year. We make it once a month and store them in the freezer like we used to do with Ollie, (the incredible shrinking dogfood packs company) and Farmer's Dog (venture capitalist almost all water and broccoli mess.)

JennaDK Honestly, you don't have to overcomplicate it and you don't have to buy expensive commercial stuff. My dog is 15. I make his food 2-3 times a week and he eats leftovers in between. It's typically a protein, chicken or beef, some combination of sweet potato, peas, and carrots, and sometimes brown rice. Occasionally eggs.
